About

RB Jones Photography is not a side business or a hobby—it’s a full time endeavor. My wife is my only assistant on most occasions and you’ll always get me, RB Jones, working with you at your event or on location. Our sessions revolve around your needs and your comfort level. I don’t watch the clock. I’m not high stress. I work very hard, but we always try to keep it fun on both sides of the camera.

All of the digital files will be yours to print as you like, though we do provide a wide variety of high (much higher than local kiosk) quality prints, framing, canvas wraps, and other products featuring your images at prices that might make you doubt the practicality of doing the legwork of printing yourself. Our ability to offer print ordering online, through the web gallery we provide with every session, allows friends and relatives all around the world to easily select just the prints they want and have them delivered in just a few days.

My style:

We all love sharp, accurate photos. I make a lot of those. But sometimes creative blurs and artistic color tell the real story of the moment. It’s great to see images that express more than just what the eye would have seen when and where a photo was captured. While I use the most modern digital SLR cameras and cutting edge lenses, my wife and I love the look of old plastic cameras with “character” like Lomo’s from Russia, Holga’s from Hong Kong, and old Polaroids from the USA. I also really appreciate the looks of distinctive film brands and the look of old darkroom techniques where developing chemicals were skipped or swapped, called “cross processing”. The digital darkroom allows me to get all those looks out of modern cameras. Sometimes I try to coax the colors, grain, textures, and clarity in the developing process to match the story that a certain frame is telling. Other times I use those techniques to suggest different times of the day or year and different environments than we were really in that day. It’s about sometimes taking an extra step or two to express the feelings and subtle nuances that a plain unprocessed photo would miss.

I used to be a high school art history teacher. That’s where I learned composition. My understanding or portraiture comes from studying not only the masters, but also the schools way outside of photorealism. It’s an unusual pathway into professional photography. But then, I’ve always been a little unusual.

Anyone can take pictures. Let’s make them.
